The British and Irish Lions have clinched the victory in their first test against the Springboks on Saturday. An unsteady first half, conceding 12 points and a deluge of penalties, and only adding 3 points to the board themselves. But after a rousing team talk and a bit of motivation from Gatland at halftime, the uncertain form gave way for the Lion's dominant performance to break through. In the second half the Lions only conceded one penalty and began to rack up their own points, finally getting over the whitewash as Luke Cowan-Dickie touches down for 5 point with Biggar faithfully adding the two. Only two points behind and with almost a full half still to play more drama ensued. The Springboks finally dotted down for 5 points after having an attempt disallowed by an offside call against Willie Le Roux. However the Springboks, unable to add the two points from the conversation, left the Lions only one point behind thanks to Biggar's boot. At 17-16 and with a final 20 minutes to play all was up for grabs. At 62 minutes, again thanks to Dan Biggar's great kicking form, the Lions took the lead 19-17. One more attempt from South Africa saw the ball cross the line but chalked off due to an earlier knock on by Kolbe. The Lions saw out the game winning by just two points in a nail biting first test, taking the lead in the series. Maro Itoje rightly won Fan's Man of the Match after a mammoth performance in both the lineout and at the breakdown, turning over ball and being a thorn in the Springbok's side.
