Ulster squad has been bolstered for Friday’s clash with the South African’s, The Emirates Lions, by 4 players returning from injury. The players returning are:
Kieran Treadwell, Rob Lyttle, Eric O’Sullivan, Robert Baloucoune and David O’Connor.
Firstly, looking at Treadwell and O’Connor returning, alongside the current battle for position between Alan O’Connor, Sam Carter and Mick Kearney, a position in the second row at Ulster will be a tough spot to achieve. This will be made even more difficult by Iain Henderson’s imminent return. Many players have put their stamp on the shirt so it’s hard to pin down who will have a consistent starting position alongside The B&I Lion.
In the back line having Baloucoune return to action will always help push along Ulster’s attack. Whether it’s a start for Baloucoune or Gilroy, having either of these guys starting and one on the bench pretty much guarantees a full 80 minutes of dangerous attacking rugby. Also, Rob Lyttle’s return will help greatly in the absence on Stuart McCloskey, having another man who can pull on the 12 shirt is of great benefit.
Currently unavailable for selection: Cormac Izuchukwu (knee), Luke Marshall (knee), Jack McGrath (hip), Iain Henderson (thumb), John Cooney (hamstring), Stuart McCloskey (hamstring), Jacob Stockdale (ankle) and Jordi Murphy.
